OFI Initiative

On request of OFI members in Malaysia and Singapore OFI now announces an initiative into this direction. In order to attempt a down listing or a delisting of the species OFI would need to have support from the industry, as well as from the governments of the range states (the countries where Dragon fish occur in the wild). This support is necessary to prepare:

  • a scientifically sound report on the conservation status of Dragon fish;
  • a scientifically sound report on the production of captive bred Dragon fish and the use of wild fish in the industry;
  • a scientifically sound risk assessment of the effects of down listing or de-listing of captive bred Dragon fish on wild populations;
  • a comprehensive management plant for existing wild populations of  Dragon fish;

commitment from range states to present the proposal for down listing or de-listing in combination with such a management plan
for CITES.
