Anthony Ramsey currently sits as an industry representative on the Ornamental Fish Management Implementation Group (OFMIG), a federal ornamental fish policy advisory group comprised of representatives from various state and federal government departments as well as from industry and hobby. Anthony has owned and operated retail aquarium stores in Sydney, Australia for the past 9 years and has always had a keen interest in getting involved to promote fairer policy and regulatory frameworks for the ornamental fish industry in Australia. Anthony has previously served as a director and vice president of the Pet Industry Association of Australia (PIAA) and also represented industry on the National Aquatic Weed Management Group. Having kept fish his entire life Anthony's passion lies with fishes from the family Cichlidae, having previously served as the president of the NSW Cichlid Society Inc. Anthony believes that industry has a responsibility to ensure the Australian environment is protected from Invasive Alien Species (IAS), yet previously industry has dealt with dictatorial governmental regulation. OFMIG represents a change to this ensuring the unique Australian environment is protected whilst adopting the least trade restrictive approach to industry. This has been achieved though a joint consultative process which considers industry concerns and interests balanced against scientific risk assessment modeling.
