Keith Davenport

A marine biologist by training Keith Davenport has worked as a research scientist, a fish farm labourer in Scotland and while a lecturing at Sparsholt College Hampshire in the UK set up the first ever full time courses in ornamental fish husbandry. Since it was established almost eighteen years ago he has been Chief Executive of OATA. During this time he has worked on issues as varied as bio security and fish disease, fish treatments, electrical equipment recycling, biocides and a whole host of others.

For more than ten years he has spent an immense amount of time addressing invasive species for the industry at national and international levels. He is or has been a member the UK’s governments Non Native Species Review Group, working groups on codes of conducts on invasive garden plants, companion animals and media and communication. Internationally he has been involved with developments in the EU, Council of Europe and in the Convention on Biological Diversity. OATA has produced point of sale posters and plastic bags emphasising the message that whatever goes into and aquarium or garden pond should remain there and then cannot cause any problems.
