OFI book on standard names
Authorities worldwide demand more and more information on the ornamental aquatic industry. Not only do they want to know the value of the fish, they also want to know the number in each species transported, especially on CITES listed species, but also for health legislation and invasive species legislation. Legislation in this direction is under development in many parts of the world. For this it is necessary to work with standardized scientific names. To prevent that governments in several parts of the world develop such standards on their own without trade input OFI now provides a standard for all freshwater aquarium fish in the trade. The list will not only be available in printed format, but also in the OFI website in a web application for producing EU health certificates (currently under development).
