OFI HONORS MR. ULRICH GLASER WITH OFI AWARD 2009
On 28 May 2009, during the opening ceremony of Aquarama 2009, OFFI honored Ulrich Glaser sr. with the OFI Award 2009. Mr. Glaser has been active in the aquarium industry since the early 1970's, lately in his publishing house Aqualog Verlag GmbH.

SUCCESSFUL AQUARAMA FOR OFI
Aquarama has been very successful for OFI. The booth was well frequented by people asking about our activities. We were we able to welcome new members and we were also able to address some particular problems in our industry, especially in relation to exports from Singapore. Meetings with members and governmental agencies were in general successful and openings created. You will be informed on the actual results when the discussed matters turn into revised policies.
OFI furthermore successfully organized several meetings like; the Fish health seminar and the launch of the highly appreciated OFI book on Biosecurity; The Annual General Meeting; the OFI Conference on Invasive Alien Species; and the Board of Advisors meeting which was attended as never before.
Altogether we look back on successful OFI activities during Aquarama 2009.

EU HEALTH CERTIFICATS: HOW MANY?
The confusion on the use of EU health certificates (how many certificates for one shipment) has grown over the last two weeks, as now several EU member states seem to interpret the legislation differently. Tuesday 9 June the Secretary general will have a meeting with the European Commission as this now creates unacceptable discrepancies. I will inform you all on Wednesday 10 June on the situation.

OFI PAVILION AT INTERZOO?
In 2008 we have investigated the interest in an OFI pavilion at Interzoo 2009. Since then the economic situation has changed. Nevertheless we have received requests by several members to investigate the possibilities. In the upcoming weeks OFI will check for possibilities and come back to you if we can present a details offer, including pricing, payment conditions and content of the offer.
An email will be sent out to all members to gauge the number of interested parties.

NEW OFI BOOK HIGHLY APPRECIATED
The OFI Book: Biosecurity in the ornamental Aquatic in industry was launched at Aquarama 2009 and was well received. Referents have written excellent reviews for publication in various magazines and also the referent who introduced the book was very pleased by the practical approach. All paid up members have, or will receive a free copy, more copies can be ordered from the secretariat (price for members: 7,95 Euros excluding postage).

NEXT OFI BOOK ON STANDARD FISH NAMES
The Annual General meeting approved the idea to develop a web application for filling in health certificates online. This application will need a standardized use of names in the certificates. For this reason the next book in the OFI educational series will present standardized scientific names for use in this application, including a large number of photos for use in identification. The book will be at least twice as thick as the last books. In the next months we will seek advertisements for this book to cover the costs of printing of this book. We will come with more details later-on.
