Session 1: Global Data & Traditional Markets: Analysis of established markets.

13 Nov 20205: 1300 to 1600

This opening session delivers a concise, data-driven overview of the global ornamental fish and aquatic-pet sector, with emphasis on the established markets of Europe, North America and select Asian economies. Using the most recent trade figures, we will examine how these regions are responding to evolving consumer preferences, regulatory changes and post-pandemic recovery. Speakers will provide current market intelligence, spotlight notable successes and analyse key challenges—trade flows, sustainability and innovation—offering a sound foundation for all subsequent convention discussions. Whether you are a producer, exporter, policymaker or retailer, this session will position your work within the broader global context.

Session 2: Emerging Markets: Focus on rapidly growing regions (e.g., Southeast Asia, Brazil).

14 Nov 20205: 1000 to 1300

This session shifts focus to the industry’s fastest-growing markets. We will review recent developments in China—the world’s most rapidly expanding aquarium sector—alongside Vietnam, Brazil and broader South America, and India, where domestic demand, export capacity and production are accelerating. Speakers will examine the underlying drivers—rising incomes, urbanisation, digital retail channels and the lifestyle appeal of aquatics—and assess the regulatory and logistical hurdles that accompany such growth. The discussion will clarify how local industries are aligning with both domestic and international standards, equipping OFI members to engage, collaborate or lead in these emerging regions.

Session 3: New Conditions & Reforms: Examination of political shifts, environmental legislation, and sustainable business models.

15 Nov 20205: 1300 to 1600

Session 3: New Conditions & Reforms: Examination of political shifts, environmental legislation, and sustainable business models.

14 Nov 20205: 1300 to 1600

This session reviews the increasingly complex political, environmental and regulatory landscape confronting the ornamental fish and aquatic-pet sector. We will examine new environmental laws, trade restrictions, evolving biosecurity protocols and climate pressures, and consider the adaptive strategies they demand. Presentations will profile sustainable business models, trace emerging policy and compliance trends, and demonstrate how companies and countries are responding. Participants are invited to see these forces not only as challenges but as opportunities to lead through more transparent, ethical and resilient practice—safeguarding the industry’s long-term credibility and sustainability.

Session 4: Special Species & Innovations: Deep dives into profitable or iconic species (e.g., arowana), plus new technologies—carrying forward emphasis on innovation and fish health.

16 Nov 20205: 1000 to 1300

This closing session assesses the species and technologies that will shape the next phase of the ornamental fish and aquatic-pet trade. From premium species such as arowana to advances in recirculating aquaculture, digital monitoring and fish-health systems, the emphasis is on innovations that marry profitability with long-term sustainability. Speakers will outline recent gains in selective breeding, disease control, water-quality management and logistics, delivering actionable insights for producers, exporters and retailers. We will also examine evolving consumer demand for rare or culturally significant species and how the industry can meet it responsibly. Attendees will leave with forward-looking strategies to help the sector thrive amid rapid change.
